Possible silly question, buuuut . . . I know that cream of wheat/rice can be used as a starchy carb in a meal, so my question is, are there such things as cream of brown rice or cream of whole wheat that we need to search out as opposed to simple carb versions of the same?

Not silly at all. The commercial cream of rice and cream of wheat products are refined, and while there is certainly some value to using them as the starchy carb component of a meal, there are so many different grains that make up tasty hot cereals it would be short-sighted to limit your choices to those found in the supermarket. I'd suggest you start by seeking out McCann's Steel Cut Oats and check out the Arrowhead Mills line of products, specifically, their Rice & Shine. If you explore the natural markets and read food labels, you'll make the most supportive choices possible, hopefully also in line with your taste. Amaranth, barley, spelt, and quinoa are some grains you might explore.
